How Can I Participate?

The Upper Arlington Public Library hopes the UA Archives program will be a community-wide effort, and there are many different ways in which you or your organization can become involved. Please contact the UA Archives at (614) 486-3342, ext. 281 if you are interested in any of the following opportunities.

Donation of Materials

Do you have a file, shoebox, or trunk full of old photographs? We are eager to receive materials relating to the history of Upper Arlington from local government, community organizations, businesses, and individuals. Historical materials in all formats will be considered and may consist of photographs, documents, arts and crafts, and audio or video recordings. Each item will be considered based on its historical significance or depiction of daily life, educational or entertainment value, and the availability of sufficient and reliable descriptions of the material.

You may donate materials to the UA Archives either through a permanent donation of the original items or through a temporary loan for digitization purposes. With a temporary loan the original items remain in the ownership of the donor, and the Upper Arlington Public Library simply borrows them to create a digital copy for the UA Archives. When materials are acquired through permanent donation, the Library encourages the transfer of original items to the Upper Arlington Historical Society for permanent storage after the digitization process has been completed. For a detailed description of our acquisition policies, please see the Policies portion of our website.

Oral Histories

The Oral Histories collection is a growing part of the UA Archives website. If you lived in Upper Arlington prior to 1950, or if you are an Upper Arlington resident and a war veteran, we would like to preserve your memories. Call us if you are interested in making an oral history recording to be shared with listeners through the UA Archives website.

Volunteer Opportunities

From time to time, the library may have volunteer positions available with the UA Archives program. Volunteer tasks include scanning archival materials and creating text transcriptions of documents or oral histories. Familiarity with computers and meticulous attention to detail are necessary for most of these volunteer opportunities.
